“When things slow down.”

Ah, the many excuses we create for ourselves when trying to lose weight.

“When things slow down, I’ll start eating better…. work out more… meal plan….”

In reality, we knew things wouldn’t slow down, and we have to make the time to take care of ourselves.

Welp, 2020 threw that right out the freaking window.

Not only has life come to a screeching halt for me, but for everyone. That was always the issue. Even when my own personal life slowed down, there was always so much going on around me.

Enter pandemic.

I mean clearly, this is going to be in the history books for probably centuries to come. And all we are being asked to do is stay home. All of us, except for essential workers. For once we can say we binged an entire season of something in less than 24 hours and IT IS TOTALLY ACCEPTABLE.

My heart is breaking for the thousands and thousands who are or will be impacted by this virus. Everyone from those that catch it to those sacrificing their time and health to care for people.

And then the optimistic side of me wonders how to make the best of it.

It’s definitely such a test for society and while it seemed slow but then snuck up on us, I’m proud of a lot of the things I’m seeing being done. How quickly we all tried to start making changes. There’s MUCH to be done, but when you think about it, companies, parents, employees, etc., changes their behaviors rather quickly.

I mean a month ago I would’ve been mad if my Amazon Prime order was late – because it was never late. And now, getting something within two weeks is a miracle. If it’s even in stock.

A month ago I was walking through running errands, getting nervous because of all the people around me.

Now? Not only are stores empty of people, but they’re about out of every essential item you need.

Like seriously, where is the toilet paper??

And for my commute, it would take about 20 minutes-ish depending on traffic. I got home in 10 minutes the other night.

But as of 5 p.m. on Friday, my work closed its doors. We aren’t shut down, but will go 100% remote. That’s another thing I’m so surprised by – that we were able to make this work so quickly. Especially being an environment where most people work in the office.

We will play by ear but will be remote for at least two weeks.

This gives me a lot of time back in my day to plan out meals, cook, workout, etc.

When things slow down,” isn’t just a saying anymore.

They’ve slowed down. Now’s the time to make it happen.
