Losing Weight: What You Can Control

Losing weight doesn’t have to be as overwhelming as it seems to be.

The thought of losing weight is so incredibly overwhelming. We want the quick fix. We want to look 10, 15, 20, 30, 50 pounds lighter overnight. And when it doesn’t happen, it’s beyond easy to throw in the towel.

I stress out over the things I can’t control and definitely used food to cope. But that only got me into a bigger pickle–now I was unhappy with myself and had to deal with everything else that was stressing me out.

It felt uncontrollable. Sometimes it still does.

But I’ve been working mentally to remind myself that losing weight is something I can control. I am the one in control of it. My failures are my failures, but my successes are also mine.

Over the last three months I’ve been trying to shift the focus.

I’ve tried to set goals and then I don’t meet them. I get frustrated I haven’t lost it.

This year I haven’t set goals. I’m just doing the best I can. I started with making one goal. If the others happened, great. But as long as I went to the gym at least four days a week, that’s all that mattered. Once that became a habit after about a month and a half, I moved on to tracking food. I’m still working on that.

Through all this I have to continuously remind myself that this journey is what I can control. 100 percent. This is me. And I can control how I feel. I can control how I will look in six months. One year. I can’t control the exacts of how I look, but I can control the fact that I’m trying. If I don’t try, nothing will happen. But if I do try, something positive will. Same goes for you.
