The Quick Fix for Losing Weight Does NOT Work…And You Sound Crazy

You sound crazy when you try your quick fix for weight loss. This will help you see it.

Saturday night my husband and I went out to dinner at a new Mexican place. We had ordered margaritas, were eating chips and salsa–it was a good time.

Maybe 30 minutes into our dinner two women were seated next to us. The tables were close so our conversations were definitely overlapping. At one point, one of the women asked us what we were eating when they were trying to decide.

It was her conversation with her friend that really made me realize how far I have come in my health journey, but how crazy insane weight loss techniques sound.

Many of us have fallen into the trap of fad diets or quick weight loss schemes. They sound easy. We have events that come up and instead of working ahead of time, we torture ourselves for a few weeks.

I’m not even kidding you–she started the conversation by saying it was her “last meal” and then she was going to get strict. Then she proceeded to tell her friend that she was looking into some kind of device on a string that would help her lose 30 pounds in two weeks. The device wasn’t FDA approved and cost $4000.

It took everything I had not to reach over the table and knock sense into her. I felt like I was being punked.

Hearing that, doesn’t it sound absolutely insane? Spending a downpayment on a car to lose 30 pounds that may not even come off? And will come right back?

Because it will.

This year I made a goal for myself to just keep trying. No matter what. I compared my January 1 picture to one taken on Saturday, so the end of February, I noticed a difference. It wasn’t huge, but it was enough of one to make me happy. I haven’t been going crazy. I’m relaxed on weekends. I just try to work out four to five times a week and include weight lifting in my routine. My weight hasn’t gone down a tone, but as long as my size goes down, that’s all I care about.

So please please please. Give up on the quick fix diet ideas. You know they don’t work. If anything, they are set backs. If you have something coming up you want to lose weight for, create a plan for yourself with plenty of time and just do it. You may lose all the weight you want–or you might not. Just keep trying. Don’t give up. But don’t don’t don’t put a foreign device in your body or starve yourself. They just don’t work.
