Tips and Tricks For Weight Loss

As I find myself watching what I foods and drinks I consume thanks to being back on my Weight Watchers and joining a DietBet, here are some things I have learned over the years to help me get through it without starving. (If you’re looking for a good weight loss plan, I highly recommend Weight Watchers since it is so flexible).

  • Track everything and use a food scale to get exact measurements (sometimes it’s more or less than the serving size listed!)
  • Try a program! And by trying a program, don’t try one that’s going to set you up for failure.  Slow and steady wins the race. Studies after studies show people gain their weight back and more when they try fad diets. Try something manageable like Weight Watchers or My Fitness Pal. There are so many programs out there and each are best for different people–so talk to your doctor if you’re hitting a wall in your weight loss. ProTracker Plus recently tweeted me about their program, which is supposed to pretty much be Weight Watchers without the cost. I haven’t used it so I’m not sure how good it is. Hungry Girl also launched her own diet plan that focuses on large portion sizes. You can use something like DietBet to motivate you to reach your goal too.
  • Plan everything. When you know what you are going to do, it makes those moments of “Am I hungry?”go a little smoother.
  • Cut things in half to make seem like there is more
  • Use smaller plates and bowls to give the illusion of more
  • Find recipe swaps for favorite foods that can eat large portions of (for instance, there are over 200 calories in a cup of mashed potatoes, but just over 75 calories for a cup of mashed cauliflower or 60 to 100 calories in orange juice but these V8 diet juices have 10 calories)
  • For those recipes, use any websites like these to get recipes, you can eat big portions: Skinnytaste, LaaLoosh, Emily Bites, Hungry Girl, SkinnyMs., Simple Nourished Living, What’s Cooking in the BurbsRecipe Girl,  Slender Kitchen and Kalyn’s Kitchen
  • Hydrate hydrate hydrate (I still struggle with this)
  • If you use Weight Watchers, download the app and take it to the store with you to scan different items in the store to mix up your variety
  • I started adding Diet Sprite to my wine to make it seem like I have more, but I get the same affect
  • Exercise. I know, I know. I hate it too. Try to find something you like. I finally am somewhat okay with jogging now that I have a good route and blast music. Exercise doesn’t have to be so bad, do what works for you. Don’t like a gym? Use YouTube videos or go to your cable’s onDemand. Pinterest has a lot of ideas too. Also, you can purchase equipment for your place. If you don’t want to spend a lot, look into a second-hand equipment store. Bored? Try a class, you can find quite a few things on Groupon too.
